Painting the Light (Nov. 2024)

Nov. 4, 18 & 25, Monday Nights at B.Marie's Atelier & Gallery.

Create a beautiful, luminous illusion of light and shadow by painting light values and dark values separately on a toned panel. The process is similar to using white and dark drawing tools without mixing them together on toned paper.

Once the light and shadows are painted, learn to create richer tones using glazing and veiling techniques to add depth. This process is a great way to hone your skills to separate values into dark and light categories while also refining techniques for applying paint through scumbling, lifting, glazing and veiling. The paintings will be limited in color in order to focus on capturing the light and learning the painting techniques. Choose your own reference (still-life, portrait or landscape) with guidance from the instructor.
